Mangroves

3 years 7 months ago - 3 years 7 months ago #51191 by Taffy
A guy up here on the Fraser Coast bought a block of land on the banks of the Mary River, intending to open a business that required access to the river bank - he also included the requirement for a jetty. He submitted all the correct paperwork to the council which they passed. BUT - as soon as he stared cutting down the mangroves that were in the way of where the jetty would be, they stopped him and had him charged. The fine was somewhere around $35000. Strange isn't it - the councils can cut down mature trees willy-nilly, and allow major developers to dispose of mature trees (some over 100 years old) - including mangroves, and nothing is said about it. Guess there might be a lot of brown paper bags and manila folders randomly blowing in the breezes.

Regards,

Taffy
