How to Grow a Bonsai Around a Rock

2 years 9 months ago - 2 years 9 months ago #55684 by RyanCaleb

I love the look of bonsai roots growing around a rock. Can you tell me how to achieve that ?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

Hi Ryan, if you search for ROOT OVER ROCK you will find a heap of information. If your starting out then I will suggest trying a fig. Any fig will give quick results Basically choose a rock and say a fig. Untangle the roots carefully then position them on your rock as you like. Electrical or grafting tape to hold in place, even string will do the job. Then put into pot large enough to cover all roots with soil mix and feed/water regularly. Much the same for deciduous trees but you work them in winter. Now is a good time to try a fig root on rock , Port Jackson would be my choice from a local bonsai nursery where you'll find good figs and rocks.
