Automatic Watering Systems

Hi There

Not sure where to put this but?

I remember being at Ray's nursery at Dural about 15 years ago.

There was guy that was looking to replace his collection of around 50 trees after a holiday overseas that I struck up a conversation with.

I asked him if he sold them because he was going overseas & the answer was NO.

He installed an up market sprinkler system complete with a rain sensor.

He said that he lived in a battleaxe block with houses in front of him & be drove down a lane, and didn't want to bother the neighbors having them watering.

He had a swimming pool and the black water heaters on the roof sprung a leak, one of the neighbors saw the water spurting up & was concerned that he would have a rather large water bill when he got back home to Sydney at the end of January.

He though that he would be doing a good thing by his neighbor in turning off the water main to the house.

So the end result was 50 crispy bonsai.

Any other stories out there??

Hi JC
I have the Holman auto system and have had it for some 8 years now and hasn't missed a beat. We go away a bit in our caravan (up your neck of the woods to Bonny Hills).

I put in a system to water my plants during summer unfortunately I juniper still passed away just because you think they are getting watered doesn't mean they are.

Just don't forget to check them cheers Adam

I have had a watering system for a couple of years. This Jan we were away for a couple of weeks. Came home and had a lots trees looking very sad/dead. Checked the watering system and someone had turned the tap off!!!

After a lot of questioning my son then admitted that 5 days before he had washed his girlfriends mothers car and while he hooked the watering system back up he never turned the tap on.

Well I lost 5 trees from that and another couple lost a lot of growth.

Most frustrating part. He never washes his own car but had to wash the girlfriends mums car!!!

Hi There

I must admit I did have a bit of a go once around this time of year when I was still in Sydney.

What I found was that if it was a windy day some would get lots & others nothing :S

Never a good story losing your trees, due to battery failure, wind, excess sun and I'll chuck myself in to blame, I have lost probably 10 - 12 trees this last 12 months.
Am about to start updating some posts, there'll be a few sad endings to them.
If only I could convince somebody to pay me to sit at home and just do my bonsai.........if only.

Sorry to hear about your loss Watty . With watering systems good friends or good nieghbours are still your best insurance . i am lucky to have both so my system gets checked daily and i leave them with the users manual and extra sprinkler heads and batteries . Can't be to careful .
