First pick up

Was at my local nursery getting some herbs and picked up this guy. I have been wanting to get into bonsai for years, not the cherry blossom I wanted but it's a start. I have read general care for it so my question is, does anything else need to be done as of now?

Hi Bruce

Just a couple of questions

Whereabouts do you live?

Looks a bit dry and the potting medium doesn't look all that good, but that can be changed later.

What was the general care notes you were given?

Hi, I live in the United States, Washington State. I did notice it was dry and I watered right after the picture ha. The nursery had told me the biggest thing to watch was watering, and not letting it get too dry or stay wet too long. Otherwise use a balanced fertilizer once a month. Thank you for assistance

Hii Bruce

Woah glad I asked where you live, we are in NSW Australia so I don't know anything about the seasons over there.

The best thing I could suggest is to look for a local club and see how that goes for you.

Have a look here, hopefully, it helps.

Oh yeah, I have been reading a lot on bonsai empire. I'm also not to worried about the growing zone I'm in as I've been reading how to care for them where I'm at. My main thing is when do I touch it outside of regular care? Like repot, wire, trim, etc. . . Thank you
