When to lift ground grown Trident Maples

1 year 4 months ago #61625 by Alan Cook
I have been growing my tress in the ground at a community garden for 5 years

Had some old Black Pines around 15 years old which I put in the ground to thicken, 3 of the 4 pines were stolen last week

I have a number of large trunk Trident Maples and Crab Apples in the ground and now want to lift them before the thief comes next time.

Currently 29th May there are still leaves on the Tridents which are in some cases 2.3 to 3 mars high with the Crab Apples still in full leaf. Last year I cut around the roots and replaced soil with a more open mix to encourage finer roots for lifting some of these next year end of July, early August prior to bud swell.

Was planning to do trunk cutting this year for some further taper.

Can I lift them now, will have to do some substantial trunk cutting and then transfer to large pot using Leons mix.

Hi Alan

How tall were the black pines, they might have grabbed them cause they were shorter?
