Fig - Where from here?

I decided to post the tree here for comment from Leong and I now find myself torn between my original plan and the one that Leong has suggested which is perhaps more like the following photo.

With apologies to Leong, can we discuss the possabilities of this tree a little further before I take any drastic steps that I may regret at a later date. I must add that this tree is the oldest in my collection having started it in 1984.

Thank you in anticipation of further discussion.

i agree with leong about using the current back as the new front
not sure if i would have the courage to cut back to a single trunk
as leong suggested but have seen him do it many times
Trees always turn out better for it just takes courage

Hi Jon. Nice to hear you again. Why not take aerial layerings of the branches that Leong suggested cutting off? Would that take some of the angst out of the big decision?
Penny.

Hi Penny, really nice to see you here.(you will find that it's more civilised over here with very few egos) Yes come what may, I will surely attempt to keep what ever I cut off.

We're both facing a similar dilemma, Jon.

It's unenviable, as we both have old trees that are not looking so good. Hard decisions to make.

So what if you are paranoid? There might still be someone following you...

I am going to reserve my opinion until i see this tree. I know Jon has his heart set on a specific style and I would love to be able to offer some hope of achieving that. If thats just not possible then explore other design opportunities.
